Recently, India has shown an outstanding performance at the Tokyo Olympics 2020 which is evident of the potential of Indian athletes and sportspersons. The sports industry in India has flourished a lot, especially in the last few years which will contibute in the country’s global standing in sports.
Having a huge population from diverse cultures and regions, India has a bright future in sports field if athletes are given equal opportunities since the beginning. Many Indians have set examples for the world like ‘the flying sikh- Milkha Singh’, ‘the hockey wizard- Major Dhyanchand’ and many more who won gold medals for india in the prestigious olympic games. Also women participation in sports is increasing, as a result of which we have the ‘Phogat Sisters’ in wrestling, ‘Mary Kom’ in boxing, ‘Women’s Hockey Team’ at 4th place in tokyo 2020, all being an inspiration for the young players of the country.
Still sports in india is facing several challenges too which includes:
    – Lack of facilities and infrastructure for the athletes.
    – Unavailability of funds and inaccessibility to continue the games further.
    – Lack of awareness, especially in rural people about the future in sports.
    – Improper education system where physical education is not given much importance.
Hence , to overcome the challenges and grab the opportunities, GOI is taking various steps in sports development like,
    – Khelo India Programme, to promote more sports enthusiasm.
    – Various awards like Arjuna award, Major Dhyanchand award and cash prizes to encourage the athletes.
Therefore, it’s high time now that people also recognise the importance of sports if they want New India as a global power in every field.

But it also faces many challenges –

    * Due to lack of good management of sports in college, school and villages, children’s interest in sports is affected.
*Lack of funds, skilled coaches, and infrastructure.
